Antiques & Collectibles

The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual collector. The items collectors collect may be antique, or simply collectible. Antiques are collectible items at least 100 years old; collectibles are less than antique, and may even be new.

An antique is an old collectible item. It is collected or desirable because of its age, rarity, condition, utility, or other unique features. It is an object that represents a previous era in human society.

Antiques are usually objects which show some degree of craftsmanship, or a certain attention to design such as a desk or the early automobile. Antiques and collectibles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They are bought at antique shops, or passed down as an estate. Some valuable antiques can be bought from antique dealers and auction services or purchased online through websites and online auctions. Antique dealers are often members of national trade associations, many of which themselves belong to CINOA, a confederation of art and antique associations across 21 countries, representing 5000 dealers. People from all over the world collect things and finding them in today's world has become easier than ever.

A collectable or collectible is typically a manufactured item designed for people to collect. In this respect, they are distinguishable from other subjects of collections, which may also include natural objects (e.g., butterflies) and objects manufactured for purposes other than collecting (e.g., stamps). Collectors and dealers may use the word vintage to describe older collectibles. A collectors' item should be one which is made without the intention of special interest but due to rarity or uniqueness, a production fault, human error, or other events, becomes sought after due to its rarity in these circumstances. Occasionally, a series of circumstances will take place that result in an item from a collectible series becoming valuable and sometimes sold for substantial amounts of money.

A person can save a ton of time if they use the internet instead of searching for antique dealers. The internet is loaded with websites, but a person must thoroughly research them in order to ensure that they are reputable. The world of antiquing is vast and a person just has to know what they are looking for in order to make it simpler.

Antiquing is a fun journey for those who take the time and effort to find what they are searching for.
